Warburg Nature Reserve

This stunning complex of woodland and grassland, lying on the slopes of a dry, winding valley, has a unique local climate. The reserve is sheltered from gales, but there are often ground frosts because cold air pools in the valley bottom.

The reserve consists of 248 acres which was purchased by BBONT from the Halfridge Estate in 1968 and named in appreciation of the Trust's first Vice President.

A rifle range, which was used extensively for practice by the local Home Guard during the Second World War, is located in the reserve.

The steep slopes, thin soils and frost pockets have meant agriculture and forestry have not been successful and the site has not been intensively farmed.

The Warburg Nature Reserve is open to the public every day except Bank Holidays.
