Monthly speakers have included Ann Arledge (Lower Assendon) on Glass, Tom Martin (Lower Assendon) on the making of a Double Bass, Joanne Migdal (Bix) on Designing and Making Sundials and Joyce Hynd (Middle Assendon) on Campanology.

Royal British Legion

The Bix Branch of the Royal British Legion meets once a month, and has some 50 members from the Assendons, Stonor, Maidensgrove and Russells Water area.

Every August, the Bix Branch holds a fundraising Bring & Buy Sale at Bix Hall.

Crib at The Rainbow

The Rainbow Inn has a very active crib team that plays in the local Brakspear Pub League over the winter months on a Wednesday night. Over the same period on a Sunday night, it also holds an in-house crib challenge called the Alvingham Shield, kindly donated by Lord Alvingham, which in 2004 was won by Jean Chandler, landlady of the Rainbow Inn (see picture).

So, if you like a sociable game of cards and a drink, for further details, please contact Chris Chantry, Tel: 01491 410261

Quiz Team

Bix has a team in the South Oxfordshire Quiz League. Currently 10 other villages are involved. We play 5 home and 5 away matches between October and April. Each team should have six players, so a larger squad is needed. In addition, each team must find a scorer and a Question Master. Each Question Master tales 5 matches i.e. he or she sees all the other teams.

The League was set up to encourage people to use their village halls, and the trophy was provided by the Henley Standard.

There is also a Knock Out Competition with a slightly wider remit. The aim is to have 16 teams so the finalists play 4 times during the same winter season. This trophy was provided by Pettit's of Wallingford.

The Bix Captain is Robin Batchelor-Smith (Tel:01491 575490), Question Master is Gill Verge (Tel:01491 573850) and the Organiser is Duncan Thomas (Tel:01491 573751)
