ROYAL WEDDING BIX & ASSENDON “OFF-STREET” PARTY!!

Thank you to everybody who came along to the Bix & Assendon Off-Street Party for the Royal Wedding.  The weather held (phew!) and we had a great turnout – well over 200 people!  Some of you got very wet, some of you danced, everybody picnicked and it looked like everybody had great fun!!!  We are delighted to say that after costs, we are able to give £280 from the proceeds from “ticket” contributions and that Jean & Curly of The Rainbow have also donated the profit from the bar they ran of a further £130 – so a total of £410 to the Bix Church roof fund!   Thank you to all villagers and friends!

Lost Church Of Bix report.

On Thursday 16th September a large Audience packed Bix Village Hall to hear about the findings of recent research and Archaeological excavation on the site of the "lost" medieval church of Bix Gibwyn in Bix Bottom. The Church, which was established before1200 and abandoned c.1600, was the second of Bix's medieval churches, located c.700 metres south of the now ruined church of Bix Brand.

The research, carried out by the Victoria County Histrory (VCH), and the fieldwork, led by south Oxfordshire Archaeological Group, promises to shed much light on changing settlement patterns, economy, and society in Bix and the south Chilterns from the Middle Ages to the 18th Century. VCH work on the Henley area (including Bix) will be published in 2011, and the "Bix Project" lays some of the groundwork for further research on the Benson and Ewelme area which is ongoing and for which further funding is currently being sought.

The Parish of Bix and Assendon

The Parish of Bix & Assendon is located in South Oxfordshire in the United Kingdom and consists of three hamlets: Lower Assendon, Middle Assendon and Bix.

The Assendons are low-lying in the beautiful Stonor Valley, just a mile or so outside of  Henley on Thames, home of the famous Henley Royal Regatta.

Bix is on the crest of the Chiltern Hills a mile or so West of the Assendons. Here you can find St James our Parish Church, Bix & Assendon Village Hall and the former village school.

The whole of the parish is within the Chilterns Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and has the benefit of well-kept footpaths, bridleways and quiet lanes.

It has a rich assortment of natural and man-made features of curious, historical and scientific places of interest.
